Birmingham, AL: Gunfire Ends “Peace Rallies”

Two consecutive anti-gun crime rallies held in the 80 percent nonwhite city of Birmingham, Alabama, have ended in mass shootings in which 11 blacks were wounded and two were killed.

The “black lives matter” movement ignores the fact that Birmingham has one of the highest murder rates in America—because the perpetrators are black.

The first “Love Thy Neighbor Day” rally was held in the city’s Brighton Park on August 27. A shooting “broke out”—as the media always say, as if shootings just “break out” all by themselves—after the rally and six blacks were wounded and one was killed.

Police later charged three blacks, identified as Jimmy Williams and his son, Samarjay Leshore, and De’Marcus Reshaad Brown—the latter with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit at the rally.

Four firearms were recovered from the scene at Brighton Park where “the community” was attending a “Love Thy Neighbor” event, WBRC news reported.

The next rally, a “Stop the Violence Gate City Peace Day” took place in Gate City on September 4.

It had been billed by organizer Jeremy Lovell as a way to show people in the city that there is a “new way to go” which will “deter them from going down paths we have witnessed and experience others have gone down.”

Less than an hour after this rally ended, a mass shooting took place just a block away which left one dead, and five blacks wounded.

According to statewide news service Al.com, Birmingham police said that “one of the victims is a teen who had a previous altercation with a black male seen driving a red Ford Mustang.”

“Witnesses told police that both men started shooting at each other, and that it appeared the teen started shooting first. The person in the red Mustang recklessly returned fire, striking several people that were in the area including the victim.”

Police say as many as 60 shots were fired, likely from multiple guns. They said they believe one person fired and then the others joined in.

This “calculated shooting was between individuals who had no regards for human life and unfortunately their actions resulted in someone losing their life,” Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards added.

The police identified the shooter as one Johnathan Chambers, who was later arrested.

Of that number, 155,791(or 73 percent) are black, 47,258 (22 percent) are white, 7,704 (3 percent) are Latino, 4,306 are “some other race,” 2,199 are “two or more races,” 2,152 are “Asian,” and 445 are American Indian, while 187 are “three or more races.”

According to the NeighborhoodScout website, which provides guidance for house buyers, Birmingham has one of the highest crime rates in America with a crime rate of 84 per 1000 residents.

NeighborhoodScout found Birmingham to “be one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.,” and said that it has one of the highest murder rates in the country.

Their analysis of FBI reported crime data showed that the chance of becoming a victim of a violent offense—including rape, murder, non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a deadly weapon—in Birmingham is one in 63.

Birmingham also has one of the highest rates of motor vehicle theft in the United States.
