US president Barack Obama has set out a brand new set of brazen lies over Syria in an attempt to bolster flagging public support for his Israeli-intelligence led attack on that country, including the ludicrous claim that Syrian chemical weapons “threaten America.”
In an eerie reply of the overt lies spouted by his predecessor over Iraq’s mythical “weapons of mass destruction,” Obama told PBSO News Hour that “hardly anybody” disputes that the regime of Bashar Al-Assad deployed chemical weapons against civilian populations.
In reality, the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is on record as publicly stating that there is no such evidence–but in Obama’s world, the president of Russia obviously classes as “hardly anybody” (it seems little wonder that Russia gave asylum to Snowden).
Obama went on to tell PBSO News Hour that “When you start talking about chemical weapons, in a country that has the largest stockpile of chemical weapons in the world, where over time their control of chemical weapons may erode, where they’re allied to known terrorist organizations, that in the past have targeted the United States, then there is a prospect, a possibility in which chemical weapons, that can have devastating effects, could be directed at us and we want to make sure that that does not happen.”
This long paragraph contains a large number of outright lies.
Firstly, according to the Arms Control Association, Russia has the largest stockpile of chemical weapons (although they are currently being destroyed, a process slated to completed by 2015).
The ACA also says that the US has the second largest declared stock of chemical weapons, although these are also in the process of being destroyed.
Finally, the reality is that Israel, as mentioned by the ACA, also has a massive stockpile of chemical weapons. However, as the ACA states in its offical report: “There is belief that Israel had an offensive CW program in the past. Has not been included in the 2005 or 2010 State Department Compliance Reports because Israel is not a party to the CWC.”
In other words, Israel has weapons but, obviously due to pressure from Washington’s powerful Jewish lobby, has avoided being mentioned in State Department reports on the subject.
In 1992, some 190 liters of dimethyl methylphosphonate, a CWC schedule 2 chemical used in the synthesis of sarin nerve gas, was discovered in the cargo of El Al Flight 1862 after it crashed in 1992 en route to Tel Aviv. The shipment was from a U.S. chemical plant to the IIBR under a U.S. Department of Commerce license.
In 1993, the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment WMD proliferation assessment recorded Israel as a country generally reported as having undeclared offensive chemical warfare capabilities.
Former US deputy assistant secretary of defense responsible for chemical and biological defense, Bill Richardson, said in 1998 “I have no doubt that Israel has worked on both chemical and biological offensive things for a long time… There’s no doubt they’ve had stuff for years.”
Secondly, there is absolutely no evidence that Syria has ever targeted the US in terrorist attacks, as Obama blatantly lied to PBSO.
Once again, this is a case of Obama blending America and Israel into one, because Syria is friendly with Hezbollah, which has been in conflict with Israel for many years.
The Syrian government has denied using chemical weapons, contradiction the Israeli “intelligence” claims.
Syria’s UN ambassador, Bashar Ja’afari, has also requested that the United Nations experts investigate three chemical weapons attacks against Syrian soldiers which occurred on August 22, 24 and 25 in three suburbs of the Syrian capital. Dozens of soldiers are being treated for inhaling nerve gas.
In May 2013, Turkish authorities found sarin gas in the homes of Syrian Islamists, ready for deployment to Syria. They found a a 2kg cylinder with sarin gas after searching the homes of Syrian militants from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front, Turkish media reported.
In August, Syrian state TV broadcast footage of soldiers finding chemical agents in rebel tunnels in the Damascus suburb of Jobar.
Syria most certainly has chemical weapons, but as pointed out in a recent Reuters report, only has them to “counter” Israel’s massive stockpile. For Obama to pick and choose which nation should be punished for having these weapons, and which should not, is rank hypocrisy of the grossest kind.
