The white terrorist who murdered eleven Jews in a mass shooting at a synagogue outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, blamed the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) for being behind the fake refugee influx into America—but ignored the fact that Catholic, Lutheran, and Episcopalian churches are also on the official list of “U.S. National Refugee Resettlement Agencies.”
The terrorist, identified as Robert Bowers, carried out his murderous attack after announcing his intention on the social media network Gab—and in that post, said that “HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people, I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.”
While Bowers’ motivation will doubtless be the focus of much discussion in the time to come, it is clear that he had a limited understanding of the process behind the “refugee” invasion of America.
There are currently nine officially registered “U.S. National Refugee Resettlement Agencies” in the US, and the majority of them are Christian churches.
The nine organizations are as follows:
- Church World Service
- Episcopal Migration Ministries
- Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc.
- International Rescue Committee
- Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service
- U.S. Committee for Refugee and Immigrants
- United States Conference of Catholic Bishops/Migration and Refugee Services
- World Relief
A HIAS statement on the shooting confirmed that it has a local partner, the Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS) of Pittsburgh.
There is a difference, of course, between the Christian churches listed above and HIAS, in that none of them have their own countries from which refugees are officially barred and blocked by border walls.
Nonetheless, Bowers’ actions are clearly the work of a seriously evil person, and no amount of pro-refugee activities by any group could justify his actions.
The fallout of Bowers’ actions will also be widely felt: already, Gab’s hosting provider Joyent has given notice to that platform that it is pulling its services.
A statement from Gab said that Joyent “has just pulled our hosting service. They have given us until 9am on Monday to find a solution. Gab will likely be down for weeks because of this. Working on solutions.”
Gab said that it had “worked tirelessly with the great people at the FBI and DOJ to see to it that justice is served for today’s horrid events. We have vehemently disavowed any and all violence” and had pulled Bowers’ account and archived it for the investigation.
“Thanks to Gab, these law enforcement agencies now have concrete evidence and a clear motive. MORE speech is ALWAYS the answer. Now Gab is being forced off the internet for the disgusting actions of one man,” the organization added in its statement.
Gab went on to point out that “Social media often brings out the best and the worst of humanity. From live streamed murders on Facebook, to threats of violence by bombing suspect Cesar Sayoc Jr. that went unaddressed by Twitter, and more. Criminals and criminal behavior exist on every social media platform.”
