The Fall of Maaloula: A Parallel with the Fall of Constantinople

The fall of the world-famous tourist attraction and peaceful Christian town of Maaloula to al-Qaeda “rebels” in Syria has direct parallels with the 1453 fall of Constantinople before the Muslim attackers: both are symbolic of the inherent violence and centuries-long war being waged by Islam against  anything non-Muslim, and is symbolically significant while being militarily relatively unimportant.

The video below shows excerpts from the planned attack on September 4, 2013 by the foreign-backed insurgents led by al-Qaeda’s Jabhat al-Nusra (Nusra Front) and assisted mainly by John McCain’s “moderate rebels” from the ‘Revolutionaries of Bab Amr’ Brigade of the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) on the ancient and mostly Christian town of Maaloula, the only town in the world where Aramaic is still spoken by its inhabitants. The town retains a highly symbolic importance in Christendom not only due to “Jesus’s language” that is still spoken there but also due to its ancient Christian heritage and monasteries.

The invasion of the town was carried out by means of a suicide bomber with the alias of Abu Musaab, whose accent in Arabic indicates that he is most likely from Saudi Arabia, and who blew himself up at the checkpoint situated at the ancient town’s main gate.

The last portion of the video is a report from Russia Today (RT) showing the suffering of the citizens of Maaloula at the hands of these “moderate rebels.”

The fall of Maaloula—which has no military worth whatsoever and was clearly designed to be a violent anti-Christian statement by the Syrian “rebels” (many of whom are not Syrian at all, but a ragtag collection of Third World fanatics from their colonized outposts in Europe and elsewhere)—was announced by the al-Nusra Front on Saturday evening, after several days of frenzied fighting for control of the town.

The fall of the town has direct parallels with the 1453 seizure of the city of Constantinople by equally fanatic Islamic invaders.

After violently conquering all of the Middle East—which was, until that time, mostly Christian in religion (this Muslim invasion being the cause of the Crusades, which were a desperate Christian attempt to drive back the Islamic attack)—the Muslim hordes seized Constantinople mainly because of its symbolic value as capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.

By then, however, little remained of the Eastern Empire, as most of its territory (in present-day Turkey and the nations of the Middle East) had already been conquered by the Muslims.

Constantinople’s fall was more symbolic than of any military value. It was the symbol of the overwhelming of the last major Christian stronghold which made it an important target.

MaalouaviewAnd it is the same with Maaloula. The town—most famous as a tourist destination with UNESCO-marked world heritage sites—is of symbolic value only.

But is does provide an insight into the nature of the “rebels” and also, critically, the mindset behind the Obama administration and others who are still seeking active military intervention in Syria on the side of the “rebels.”

The rebels have, with the seizure of Maaloula, shown that they are intent primarily on driving out all those who are not Islamists.

This makes Obama’s support for the terrorists—who he otherwise claims to oppose—even more hypocritical than ever. Why would the American government—which itself has been attacked by al-Qaeda—want to support al-Qaeda affiliated military organizations in Syria?

The answer is, like Occam’s Razor, the most obvious: the American public is overwhelmingly opposed to an attack, and the only group in favor of escalating the violence is the Jewish Lobby.

According to a Reuters report titled “Pro-Israel US lobbying group sets major push for Syria action,” what it calls the “influential pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) will deploy hundreds of activists next week to win support in Congress for military action in Syria, amid an intense White House effort to convince wavering US lawmakers to vote for limited strikes.”

A related article in the Times of Israel announced that “Jewish organizations in US support Syria strike” and said that an “array of Jewish organizations is set to endorse US President Barack Obama’s call for military strikes against Syria.”

According to that article, AIPAC is being joined in its lobby efforts by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Zionist Organization of America, Americans for Peace Now and the Anti-Defamation League.

In addition, 17 of America’s most important and leading rabbis took the unusual step of submitting a public appeal to the US Congress asking them to back an attack on Syria.

The 17 signers included Rabbi Eric Yoffie, a past president of the Union for Reform Judaism; Rabbi Yosef Blau, the rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva University; leaders of the Conservative movement; and essayists such as Leon Wieseltier and Rabbi Joseph Telushkin.

These Jewish Supremacist organizations certainly have their work cut out for them. According to the Associated Press, the US Congress currently leans six to one against a military attack on Syria.

This poll showed just how out of kilter the Jewish lobby is with non-Jewish opinion on the matter, and when the Congress finally votes on the matter—an event expected next week—the final voting figures will provide an insight into how effective or otherwise the latest AIPAC lobbying efforts have been.
