In yet another example of the growing power of the right wing Jewish lobby over the Trump administration, the US has voted against a United Nations resolution condemning Israel for its continued illegal occupation of the Golan Heights—at exactly the same time that Syrian forces discovered an arms and missile cache of Israeli and US weapons hidden by terrorists.
The non-binding resolution was adopted in a General Assembly committee by a vote of 151 to 2, with the United States and Israel the only two countries opposing the measure.
Israel seized control of much of the Golan Heights from Syria in a 1967 war and later annexed it, in moves never recognized by the international community. Israel and Syria are still technically at war.
The UN resolution declares that the Israeli decision to occupy and annex the Golan was “null and void,” and calls on Israel to rescind that decision.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon applauded the US shift, which he said was “another testament to the strong cooperation between the two countries.”
Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency announced that the Syrian army had found a large amount of weapons and mines, some of which are Israeli-made, which terrorists had thrown into the al-Hurieya Lake, which runs on the Israeli barbed wire border at the occupied Golan heights.
SANA’s reporter in Quneitra said that a diving team “extricated new amounts of weapons and IEDs, some of which are Israeli-made. The reporter added that the uncovered weapons included Malutka rockets , Jahannam (Hellfire) Shells, artillery shells, tanks, munitions, and machineguns thrown by the terrorists in al-Hurieya lake” before they fled the area.
The Syrian army discovered a second cache of Israeli and US weapons left behind by terrorists in the Daraa region in southwestern Syria—the so-called “cradle of the revolution” where the US, UK, Saudi, and Israeli-backed terrorists first launched the war to destroy Syria.
